Caregivers of Our Youth
Caregivers Of Our Youth ©

Remember when those childhood boo, boos
Were ever so gently kissed
By caregivers with miraculous powers
Those times are truly missed
Remember when school failures were soothed
So they didn’t seem so tragic
Words of kindness and encouragement shared
Always worked like loving magic
Remember when social acumen
For you just wasn’t a natural thing
So once again loving caregivers jumped in
Helping your hurting soul to once again sing
And those times when looking into the mirror
Brought sadness and sometimes such pain
So the loving folks who brought you up
Encouraged you to just try and try again
Now for some all my words are just pure fantasy
For some grew up in a hurtful place
Where love and kindness would never be
Painful memories brought a life without grace
So get out you did to seek refuge and joy
Like you hoped one day you would do
You knew you deserved some happiness
Perhaps even love that was honest and true
No caregiver was ever perfect
Some were even downright mean
Others were loving and caring folks
And every permutation in between
No explanations I’ll give for their failures
For their foibles or massive success
Just a thought I’ll offer upon this page
They probably just did their best
About this poem
Our caregivers just did the best they could.
