Whisper

Gone was the girl,
lost in the wind, they said

All's left but a whisper in her place,
a whisper of her mind unravelled

She lingers there like a word to be spoken,
yet a word no one dares to speak

Her voice carried away by gales that shake the bone,
she whispers her words; so listen

A whisper of pain,
a whisper of waiting,
a whisper of ache,
an exhale of relief.

Her last whisper.

About this poem

A poem about a girl who died and her ashamed family. They refuse to talk about her and pretend like it never happened. But however much they try to ignore it, her spirit is always there waiting for them to tell her story. Over and over she reminds them of how she died which is her 'last whisper'.
