Nowhere to run

Matthew Thomas 1976 (Adelaide)

Nowhere to run

Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
I glanced through the window, I found myself outside
I try to scream, I realise it’s a dream
Looking back could this be real, it’s not ideal
What I wanted hasn’t begun, time to run and time to have fun
The prophet said to the stranger there is no danger
The waves begin to build inside my brain, bringing hail and sometimes rain
How long have I been drifting, the rocks remain the sand is shifting
I’ve been watching the hour glass as my memories slowly pass
A cascade of tears begin from deep inside, deep within
The forbidden fruit awaits us all, on every tree and every stall
I feel a pain in my heart, when will it stop, when did it start
I’m waiting for the starting gun, not to race, just to run
The wind made a whistle and I looked around, a familiar song, a familiar sound
