Make It Out Alive

Sometimes when you water the flowers you think of suicide.

“Would they still wanna grow if they knew they could die?”

You go to the part of your soul where the dark paces.
Just a skid of a kid in between the pleasant and the long faces.

You just give ‘em a smile.
For a while,
Be a child again-
Relish and let yourself feel the feelings you were lucky to be given.

But just so you know,
Nobody knows.
If it feels easy life will make you queasy
Spit up your Mickie D’s and question your reasons; but just let it go.

Better to keep your head up.
Keep your pride.
Use your mind and let love inside.
It’s not you, it’s where you had to reside.

If you can give yourself some time,
You can make it out alive.

About this poem

This is a poem about growing up in a small town feeling different or queer or gay or feeling judged by whatever your surroundings has against you and having those dark thoughts but rising above it to know you will ultimately make it out and realizing everything is temporary if you allow it to be. It’s about not letting the intrusive thoughts that others press on you take over. Every being is different and every being is beautiful.
