Ukraine's courage
A poem for Ukraine 1966 (Boston)
In the realm where dreams ignite,
Where courage takes its daring flight,
A tale of strength, both fierce and free,
Of souls who fought for liberty.
In days of yore, a struggle born,
A quest for freedom, brightly worn,
Like flames that dance with fiery pride,
Their spirits soared, no fear to hide.
With hearts ablaze, they stood upright,
Their dreams ignited in darkest night,
Their voices echoed through the land,
A symphony of freedom, hand in hand.
Through stormy tides and treacherous seas,
They sailed with steadfast resolve, like the breeze,
No chains could bind their spirits bright,
For independence was their guiding light.
With banners raised, they marched ahead,
With each step, the seeds of courage spread,
Through battles fought, with souls unbowed,
They fought for justice, both silent and loud.
Their stamina, an unwavering fire,
Their determination, a soaring desire,
In the face of fear, they boldly stood,
For their homeland's freedom, they shed their blood.
Their fight, a symphony of valor,
Each triumph, a priceless treasure,
Their souls intertwined with destiny,
A testament to bravery and unity.
And now, in lands where freedom thrives,
Their legacy, like golden sunrise,
Shines upon those who dare to dream,
With gratitude, their courage we esteem.
So let us honor those who fought,
With every fiber of their thought,
For in their struggle, we find our voice,
The sweetest hymn of freedom's choice.
May their tale forever inspire,
To keep the flames of freedom higher,
For courage, stamina, determination's might,
Shall guide us towards eternal light. Written by Charles perreira
