The Barroom Ballet

Downtown bar,
Dimly lit,
Smoke-filled room,
Whiskey-stained hope.
Losers and loners,
Married to the night,
Seeking solace
In alcohol's embrace.

Bartender,
With tired eyes,
Pours another round,
Free of judgment.
The jukebox croons
Their muted sorrows,
As they drown their demons,
One sip at a time.

The poet in the corner,
Adorned with stains,
Scribbles words on a napkin,
Liquor-fueled creation.
He knows his words
Won't change the world,
But they offer solace
To his own tortured soul.

The women at the counter,
Once vibrant and alive,
Now carry the weight
Of broken dreams.
Creases on their faces,
Hidden by makeup,
Longing for a touch,
A moment of respite.

The man with the cigarette,
Ash falling like snow,
Connects the dots
Of past lovers in his mind.
Each drag a memory,
Each exhale a love lost,
He inhales regret,
Exhales longing,
And drinks.

The bartender observes
The empty bottles,
Reflecting fragmented lives,
Shattered dreams.
The night is but a canvas
Of lost hopes,
Where broken souls gather,
Seeking oblivion.

Outside,
The city is a beast in slumber,
Its heart pounding,
Aching in every building.
The streets whisper
Secrets to the moon,
While the poet,
The women,
And the man ensue
In their barroom ballet.

Together they seek refuge
From life's cruelties,
Within these four walls,
The inebriated confession.
Amidst the cigarette smoke
And spilled liquor,
They find camaraderie
In their collective despair.

The bartender wipes the counter,
Weary bones aching,
Closing time nears,
Dreams dissipate.
They gather their memories,
Stumble into the night,
Until the next drop of sun
Kisses the horizon.

Downtown bar,
Dimly lit,
Emits a smoky aura
Of intoxication.
Here, the forgotten
Find solace in poetry,
As their spirits hover,
Whispering tales of the lost.
