A Father Gives

A father gives us life,
And teaches us how to live.
A father shows us strength,
And tempers it with kindness.
A father gives instruction,
And shares his experience.
A father reminds of caution,
And gives words of wisdom.

We don't often listen
To his caution and wisdom.
Sometimes we snicker and laugh
At his instruction and experience.
We often do not understand
His kindness and strength.
And yet looking back we know
We have life because he taught us to live.

Happy Father's Day!

About this poem

A father's day poem to remind us the gifts that father's give. It is also a reminder that we don't often listen until later in life, when we realize the value of their instruction and wisdom.
