The Pebble That Rocked

Steve Cochrane 1955 (Cape)

Some years ago, a pebble was
Unhappy for its size.
He had no hope to change because
Of teasing and the lies.

The rocks nearby were mean to him
Because of all his dirt.
The pebble knew, with chances slim,
Their words would cease to hurt.

One day a thunderstorm arrived,
And dropped the hardest rain.
It was so strong!  Who would survive
Without at least some pain?

The pebble thought he'd save small ones,
And covered each of them.
The rain then showed when it was done,
The pebble was a gem.
