Spiraling

Annette king 1982 (Portugal)

Life has become too much to bare
So many losses
How can this be fair.
I can't get out of bed
My universe seems bleak
I haven't seen the light of day
In nearly a week.
Can't do this anymore
I have to numb the pain
Throwing caution to the wind
I'm already lost at all
I only stand to gain.
Is I hit the pipe I realize
That this is my new best friend
This is the only thing that
Will stay with me till the end.
The pain finally fades away
Oh thank God I've made it through
So long as I stay high
No longer will I be blue.
But now every day I need it just to function
As I did before.
And every day I realize
I'm doing more and more.
I no longer enjoy anything
No smiles upon my face,
Because the drug consumes my thoughts
I'm running a doomed race.
Stopping long enough to clear my head,
I finally see the truth.
That the drugs have given me nothing
Only taken my home, my family, my youth.
And so we came my journey to recovery
Always taken one step at a time
I finally know now
That one day victory shall be mine.
