Not Myself

It's harder than it looks trying to be someone you're not, I forgot, being clean, does seem better than a dope fein. But the grass still ain't green. Cuz it's a losing battle I fight daily, to be a mother to Bella and Hailey. Face the facts, not overreact. They're better off where they're at. I love them both, don't get me wrong, been headstrong all along. And sometimes, yes I feel like giving up, but hold up. Been clean a year, it's real clear I'd rather drink a beer. And in the midst, a twist, my happiness does not exist. Cuz it's a fight to make shit right, this load ain't light. Dealing with bitches who connive, lie, cheat and steal. Is this bitch for real? Dedicated to destroy my life, with strife. Been through hell and high water with this bitch trying to steal my daughter. I fell short, fighting in court. Ain't got a last resort. That judge gave me all the blame, adding fuel to the flame. So put her in the hall of fame, she sure played a perfect game. You bet I'm upset, but shit ain't over yet.

About this poem

I wrote this after losing a custody battle in court. The judge took the father's side. I have two girls Hailey and Isabella who I fought hard for to keep my parental rights which I did eventually accomplish. I titled this poem Not Myself because I am a recovering heroin addict and at the time I thought being sober was Not Myself. I always thought being high was me being myself.
