Nocturn

My mother always told me, "Don't
be fearful of the night.
The darkness cannot hurt you when
the stars are shining bright.

There's nothing neath the veil of black
that isn't there by day.
Appreciate the night, my child,
and all will be okay."

I took her prudent words to heart
and loved nocturnal things.
The moon appears up in the sky,
and oh what peace it brings.

The darkness sets my mind at ease,
and I shall not be swayed.
I love the night too fondly now
to ever be afraid.
