Oscar Wilde

Dear Oscar Wilde,

Injustice is an ugly beast,
Which robs us all of pride and peace.
It took its toll on you, dear friend,
And caused your heart to break and bend.

You suffered greatly for your love,
A love that society would shove
Into a closet, out of sight,
A love that they deemed wrong and right.

But we cannot undo the past,
Nor heal the wounds that were so vast.
All we can do is humbly say,
We're sorry for the price you paid.

Sorry for the pain you felt,
Sorry for the cards you were dealt.
Sorry for the prison cell,
And for the toll that it did tell.

You were a man ahead of time,
A champion for love divine.
A writer, a wit, a force of art,
A soul who lived with all his heart.

So know that you're remembered still,
For all the joy, the wit, the thrill.
And know that we'll continue on,
Until all love is seen as one.

Rest in peace, dear Oscar Wilde,
Your story will continue to thrive.
For you were more than just a name,
A symbol of love that will remain.

With love and admiration,

A friend of art and creation.
