Second Place

How do I tell you what’s on my mind?
How can I tell you just what I need,
When I feel so lost and left behind?
I’m so broken; I can’t stop this bleed.

You tell me you love me, and I know it’s true.
You say nothing’s changed, so please tell me why
It feels so different, and I feel so blue.
You had me up on a pedestal, so very high;

Now I feel I’ve been dropped one or a few.
It feels like I’m now in second place.
I really don’t know what I can do.
I’ve no desire to run this race.
