Overconfident negligence

Jenna Binns 1994 (Iowa)

      Ignorance is bliss,
Until once concealed secrets are exposed.

All hope of denial snuffed in the moment complete realization of your overconfident
                                       negligence finally sinking in.

            Are you capable of acceptance?
                                        Or
fueled by hypocritical purity and deceitful excuses?

Those which create the illusion of true innocence deep within.
                                               How long will I suffer
                                             this poisonous suspense
Before being presented with what path has been chosen?

Is it going to be one of defensive justifications?
Or maybe that of genuine remorse and humility?

Time spent in silence cannot be recovered.              Let not fear nor disappointment waste even one moment of it.

I’ve been writing poetry on and off for the last 17 years, it’s a way for me to escape the reality that I live at that moment in time, while also locking it onto paper in physical form. So that my mind is no longer burdened with the mostly negative emotions that inspire and create them. more…
