The Clutches of Time

In the rhythmic pulse of ticking clocks,
Uncertainty echoes in our fragile hearts,
Second by second, and year by year,
Who knows if we'll ever behold
The future that seems so near,
And all of those whom we hold dear,
Who knows if we'll ever again feel,
The ethereal touch of their skin
Or witness those shining, bright eyes?
Even if we knew, and even if we do,
Will time ever be so merciful?
To not take away
The youth of their soul,
The light of their eyes,
The mighty vigor in their muscles,
For I can endure any pain,
But losing my dearests,
To the miseries that time imparts,
I'd bear any pain,
Except that of hearts.
