The Kentucky Derby Poem

So swift behooves,
In challenging quest,
Competitive hearts,
Race their best!
A treasure to win,
One measurable test!
For equine ones,
The World's Best!

About this poem

This poem was inspired by my lifelong work, working at Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky, and by my being so connected to the Kentucky Derby as a licensed Kentucky State Racing Commission employee for over 50 years. This Poem was first written in the 90's but I just recently changed the last verse from: "Churchill's Best" to "The World's Best"
