Once upon a Christmas Eve
Once upon a Christmas Eve…Pam Allen
Once upon a Christmas Eve
while resting in my bed
The thoughts of dear old Santa
just kept racing through my head
I wondered if he’d find me
and if he did…what would he bring
The thoughts of all the presents
made my little heart just sing!
Maybe there’d be purses, make up, shoes
and joo-ler-ree!!
And all that other extra stuff
especially for…ME!
And though I knew he would not come
till I was fast asleep
I just could not control my thoughts
or count those little sheep!
The visions of those gifts I’d find
picked especially for ME
All wrapped and scattered gently
underneath my Christmas tree
Gave my heart so much excitement
I just could not stand it anymore
And then I heard the ‘ho-ho-ho’
outside my bedroom door!
Oh me…he’s here….and I’m awake
whatever shall I do?
Cause Santa will not leave my gifts
he’ll give them all to …YOU!
Then I’ll be left with nothing more
just some coal stuffed in my sock
Because I could not go to sleep
for watching that old clock
And thinking ‘bout no one but ME
how selfish I have been
Not even once remembering
my family and my kin!
So Santa, take those precious gifts
and give them all away
To those who will have nothing
on this blessed Christmas day
And take the gift of peace to all
and fill their hearts with cheer
And may we share YOUR ‘spirit’ on this ChristmasDay…this year!
About this poem
Just a whimsical take on a very selfish girl expecting a lot of Christmas presents just for her. She then realizes…it’s not about her after all
