Trying to make it
As I approach a new year I wonder when I'll make it.
I have been looking back and looking forward
Children grown, but missing
Wishes kept, but many incomplete
When will I make it
When will my heart forgive me for things not accomplished
I see the joy, but feel the regret
There are so many things I wished and planned
So many things I let life take
When will that be replaced by the joy of being
Not today

About this poem

As a divorced dad whose children are now grown reflection is sometimes painful
