A Rose Bud
Tommy L. Maddox 1972 (North Carolina)
A rose of love must start from its seed.
When it's small as a spark,
and fragile as a newborn lark.
Nourished and fed,
with compassion and charm.
To become our love,
never harmed.
To you, I give this rosebud,
Plant it in your heart,
and it will grow into a rose.
As will our love.
Keep it safe,
and tend it well.
For if it dies,
our love dies as well.
