Living Upright In The Upside Down

Charles Edward York 1966 (Saigon, Vietnam)

Living Upright In The Upside Down

You get to walk down a sidewalk unnoticed
I get to look over my shoulder.
You get to visit any store undisturbed
I get eyes on me like a boulder.
You get to drive wherever you want
I get followed all over town
You get the benefit of the doubt with the law
I am living upright in the upside down.

You get to say whatever you think
I get criticized when I shout.
You get to bend all the rules you made
I protest against what they're about.
You get to to choose where you jaunt
I get hassled whenever I'm around
You get the advantages of every freedom
I am living upright in the upside down.

You say all I ever do is complain
I only remember the facts
You go on lying like it is true
While I document words against acts.
You exaggerate and you flaunt
Your fraud is the joke of a clown
Your applause will celebrate your reversal
When we turn your upright upside down.
