Battered and Broken

So you think it's a joke
This decade of fear
That only got worse
Year after year

I'd open my eyes
And hate every new day
All that walking on eggshells
Caused so much pain

Your hands on my throat
My feet off the floor
Cuts, scrapes and bruises
My head bounced off a door

How were you able
To knock me flat on my back
With one strong push backwards
Everything's black.

The room starts to spin
When I try to stand up
If I close my eyes a minute
The ringing will stop

I still have that scar
On the top of my head
When you threw a cup at me
When I was nursing our kid

Remember the time
You almost broke my nose
But you made up for it
And bought me new clothes

You always told me "She was crazy"
You told me "she lied"
I should've known better
And seen all the signs

I believed you were sorry
But I should have just ran
Cuz is a man who hits girls
Even really a man?
