Words

“Words”

I found I have a gift with words
and to be honest I was a bit disturbed
How could I at 42 discover
that this gift could arise within a Mother

I sat down one day and started typing
a rhythmic vocabulary flowed without
griping
The words danced from me onto the page
I found within myself a female mage

Her voice was silenced and suppressed
A web of chaos woven around her chest
I was confused and a bit perplexed
There was a caged bird inside of me
She appeared lonely and depressed

I said to her, “I’m sorry I did not know you
were there”
She sang quietly “life has been a bit unfair”
I gently removed her from her cage

I held her in my palm and with her presence
did engage
I drew her close and kissed her beak
Please sing your song now
Go ahead…do speak

She was timid, apprehensive and a bit afraid
So a beautiful nest we gathered for and made
I let her pick out ribbons of many colors
We wove, and sewed, and comforted one
another

I found an inner sister within me
One who was as beautiful as could be
She started singing
Her voice getting stronger
Each day she would sing longer and longer

She made the most beautiful sounds
It was as if rainbows could be sung aloud
Tears of joy streamed down my face
As I realized that she was my missing Grace

I remember you… for you ARE me
You are my inner self, my soul’s voice
I set you free

She flew back inside my chest
Within my heart she wove a nest
Her song within kept getting louder
Until from my throat I felt her chatter

Our songs became one voice, one heart
My inner song Bird, my nightingale, my lark
I felt all within me begin to change
All outside of me became rearranged

I became a songbird of all kinds
My song could heal tortured and restless
minds
Within my song was wisdom gained
Beauty and compassion forged from years
of pain

We all have an inner caged bird who
wants out
Initially she may want to scream and shout
She has so much that she needs to say
She wants to see and feel the light of day

Her dream is to one day unite her
human flock
To live in peace and harmony without
a clock
To sing together our beautiful song
The one of Unity, Hope and Victory
The one we’ve known all along

Always remember to look up to the sky
Allow the density of your humanity to
elevate, to fly
We are not solely here to work and to die

We’ve been given this opportunity to live,
 love and create
Our existence is not destined solely to fate

This little song bird wants everyone to know
that it is never too late to fly and to grow
Watch and listen to all the songbirds

They are everywhere, but most importantly
inside of you
