Well-worn Wishes

We’ve all heard it before-
That these roses hide thorns.
So you can go wade in your
Wilted garden of well-worn wishes,
Until you Ravage ever last rose
left from existence.
And you can pat yourself in the back,
as you always do,
After another long day
in denial.
And as you take
one last look at your lonely lawn
Feeling accomplished again,
Convinced it was worth it all along,
you can lie a sigh of relief
As you finally have nothing left to mourn.
