Pushing past the pain

It is hard to stand up and not cry
To hold back the shame of my disguise
The hurt, the pain, knowing nothing ever will be the same
The brokenness, the thoughts of being insane
I hate to complain, to bring up topics against the grain
Drip drop, my thoughts won't stop
My insides are starting to rot
from placing a masque over my face
To hide from everyone, to stay safe
Speaking out isn't about a moment of fame
Stop and listen to the cleansing of the rain
Let it pour down to wash away the fears
To wipe away those nonstop tears
To gently take away the frustration
To stop me from my dissociation
I don't care about who will or won't agree
I am strong enough and willing to see
Who will listen, who will believe
Who is a true friend that will stick with me
and who will brush away, what I say
to avoid the hard life, that prefers the easy way
Some may not be ready
To hold strong and be steady
That can't stand with me
To help my truth escape and finally be free
This whole thing isn't fair
I should not hide or worry about who cares
Who will decide to open their eyes
to hear my soul cry, to hold me close as I cry
until I let out a release the heaviest sigh
It is my truth, therefore I will tell you in my way
I will stand tall with what I have to say
I'll let my words bleed from my essence
Ripping open my wounds to allow convalescence
Why is it so hard to be authentic
to be open to being sympathetic
to being true to thine own self
to stop putting pain and suffering upon a shelf
Without any doubt
I will let the truth come out
I will face it head on
No matter what might be going on
I raise my glass and hope you will too
Cheers to those willing to say #metoo

About this poem

My trauma is hard to write about, but it helps me to release it through poetry. I wrote this poem to get rid of some of my pain.

I could have written every word of this. I related and felt this poem. Insanity and disguises and tears. Well written
