Cow at the Creek

Quietly chilling with the shadows of the night.
Thought I saw the beam of a flashlight.
As I slid my hair behind my ear,
To help me focus on the things I might hear.
I jus sat there listening, my mind in deep thought.
A few more beams, my eyes had caught.
As they kept their flashlights close to the ground.
I heard the pain in a sad MOO sound.
I listened to a horse as he took each step.
Moving closer to where the Cow was kept.
Maybe he was checking the barbwire,
that made the fence line.
I heard it again that sad MOO whine.
I knew something was wrong with this Cow at the Creek.
I was really starting to worry cause her cries became weak.
So I looked to the Stars and I prayed for the best.
Then the sound of a gunshot, made it clear, the Cow now laid to rest.

About this poem

It was my birthday, bout 4:30 am. I’m out drinking coffee and watch the deer when I heard the saddest sound.
