A Life So Pure

Clinton Herring 1951 (Lawton, Oklahoma)

When weighed upon those ancient scales,
And seen against the cross with nails,
What life, before God, could ever stand?
Without His mercy, His saving hand?

The Lord, so pure, He conquered death,
While giving up His final breath.
His life so filled with heavenly Grace,
He stood in place for the Human race.

The Father, Judge, looked down and wept
At love so strong, His wrath now slept.
Yes, love so pure, it reflected His own,
He sent His angels to remove that stone.

The Son came forth like brilliant day,
Out from the tomb where He did lay.
His life so full of truth and grace,
Covered forever with "Silk" and "Lace".

Our only hope is His saving touch,
Crowned by jewels, gold and much.
His mercy pours upon our souls,
And covers our sin, filling all holes.

About this poem

Measuring our lives by God's pure standard of love, we all fail except the Lord, Jesus Christ, whose infinite love for us was so pure that He could stand in place for the Human race, and the Father accepted His sacrifice which then allowed Him to offer us mercy.
