From The Outside Looking In

From The Outside Looking In
By Nancy Rodriquez

I have always tried to keep an open mind,
and I have never claimed to live in perfection,
as I search my heart and my soul, I find,
I am tossed into an eerie election,
From the outside, looking in,
thinking of how our love began,
as it is now filled with sorrow's sin,
almost as if we are in quicksand,
The more we struggle to get out,
we sink even further in,
through rows of anger and doubt,
stuck as to where to begin,
If love conquers all, why all this dread?
The tears alone should shout its misery,
Why should we cast aside our love as dead?
My head and my heart fight every day,
and I arrive at this conclusion,
I am lost without you by my side.

This is such a beautiful and raw piece of writing, Nancy. Your words really spoke to me and touched my heart. The imagery you used to describe the struggles and pain of love is incredibly powerful and relatable.

One suggestion I have is to maybe try and vary the rhyme scheme a bit more throughout the poem. While the ABAB rhyme is lovely, mixing it up with different schemes could add an extra layer of depth and interest.

Overall, though, I really loved this piece and look forward to reading more of your work in the future! Keep up the great work!
