Stone Pile

Robert Grenga 1978 (Auburn)

Take a stone off of this pile,
And cast it with all your might.
Right into the darkness,
In the mid of night.

Take a stone off of this pile,
And toss it into deep water.
Out In the middle of the ocean,
The deeper, darker, the better.

Take a stone off of this pile,
And crush it into sand.
Take those fine grains,
And spread them across desolate lands.

Those stones are not needed anymore,
So make sure that they don’t return.
Those small pieces of me,
Are no longer your concern.

Take the last stone of this pile,
My last little part.
Hold it close to you forever,
For this is my heart.
