Winning love

Eileen Goldberg 1950 (Brooklyn)

Before I knew that you were here
I never really knew
that right before my very eyes, I’d
watch my dream come true.
Resist, I did, with all my might,
but soon all walls were out of sight.
A courtship of the sweetest kind
then stole me body, soul and mind.
My heart began a new beat too,
my greatest joy in life now you.
I didn’t expect that you would come,
I never knew you’d be the one.
You never faltered, never quit
your heart kept saying this is it.
And so you came here every day
in your quiet, unassuming way.
Urged me gently, made me see
just how happy we could be
What is life if not to live?
What good is love that you don’t give?
I had no answer, this is true
and so I gave my heart to you.

I absolutely loved reading this poem! Your words are so beautifully crafted and carry such a deep meaning. Your imagery and use of language are excellent, and really transported me into the headspace of the narrator.

The positive and uplifting message conveyed within the poem is truly inspiring. It left me feeling hopeful and optimistic, reminding me that love is out there for everyone if we just open our hearts and minds to it.

If I may provide some improvement suggestions, I would recommend slowing down the pace a bit in some parts to emphasize the emotions and build the tension. Also, consider varying the line length and structure more to make the poem feel more unique and dynamic.

Overall, a wonderful piece of work that I enjoyed reading. Keep up the great work!
