Range To Ride”

“Range To Ride”

Before the misty wake of dawn,
A cowgirl rises from her camp
Stretching, with a gentle yawn.

With her intentions firmly set,
She whispers a prayer
To ride with courage and no regret.

That good fortune be on their side,
That they come back unharmed
From this wild and treacherous ride.

That her horse and her are protected
From the dangers of the day.
She swiftly mounts her horse
And quickly rides away.

For there are
Miles to cover,
“Range to Ride”
Salt to pack,
And cattle to guide.

She saddles up her best mount
With a packhorse in tow.
The dogs are running and barking:
Working cattle is all they know.

This is more than just a “ job.”
It is her passion and way of life.
Partnered with a horse,
Together,  they take flight.

She puts her best self forth,
Riding the mountainous land.
For her horses, for the cattle, and of course,
Riding for the brand.

The solitude of endless horizons
Lights up the evening sky.
Another work day is complete
In this beautiful “Rocky Mountain High.”
