Not Your Fault

It’s not your fault you felt so alone, so small, hidden looking out from the corner you were forced in.
It’s not your fault the people who surrounded you never said a word to defend your young soul.
It’s not your fault you feel abandoned, angry, and sad.
It’s not your fault. Stop blaming yourself!

You’re stronger now, you’re older now.
Don’t bow down to those who continue to open the scars of your past.
Stand up, take your life back.

It’s not your fault you feel the pain that you feel.
Own it.
It’s not your fault for taking your life back.
It’s not your fault for being better, healthier.

Don’t blame yourself, take pride in yourself, stand up for yourself.
You’re stronger now, you’re older now.
Don’t bow down to those who continue to open the scars of your past.
Stand up, take your life back.

You have the right to be who you are.
You have the right to cry, scream, yell.
You have the right to make healthy choices for yourself, to not depend on those who shatter you down.
You have the right to feel what you feel. You have been torn down, it’s time to rise.

You’re stronger now, you’re older now.
Don’t bow down to those who continue to open the scars of your past.
Stand up, take your life back.
Remember, it’s not your fault.

About this poem

Realizing not everything is your fault even when you feel like it is. It's great for all ages. Reason behind the poem. This was written because over my teen years into my adult life I have been blamed for many things that I had no control over. My parents divorced, and my dad remarried. My stepmom and I have never gotten along and my dad haven’t support me or defended me. When I wrote this, I had officially cut off ties with my stepmom 20+ years later and my sister for the first time didn’t support me and she blamed me. It hurt. I know things in life hurt and your feel like it is all your fault. This isn’t just for me it is for others who just need to hear or read that it is not all your fault.
