Not okay

Rihanna 2007 (Birmingham)

Not okay

How could we be so blind,
Blind to see behind the doors,
All the flaws that we ignored,
But it’s okay.

The kids that sit at home,
Depressed, They’re skin and bone,
They think they’re all alone,
But it’s okay.

We learn to ignore the ones who hide,
The ones we set aside,
The ones who lost all pride ,
But it’s okay

Kids sit at home staring at their wall,
Thinking whether or not to fall,
Because in their heads they feel so small,
But it’s okay.

They’re not okay.
They would cry all day and pray,
Begging for the end of the day,
Wanting everything to go away,
Cant somebody just ask them to stay,
Not to go too far away,
Their minds are made of clay,
But they would just obey,
Themselves they did betray,
Please take the pain away,
They said everyday.

Don’t ignore the ones who need,
The ones who try to plead,
Where their thoughts would start to bleed,
But everyone agreed,
That they were guaranteed,
To stay and please succeed,
But they would just mislead,
They wanted to be freed.

It’s not okay.
It will never be okay.

About this poem

This poem talks about depression in young adults and children. I was in fact inspired by myself and how I feel.
