Lost identity

Gayatri Das 2005 (Tezpur, Assam)

                         Lost identity

              Enjoying the praises of others
For tasks never had I dared doing
Today , I am one of the fools
                Among the crowd of many
                 As world's false plaudits
         Started making my days beautiful
And nights filled with agony and self- doubt.

Today , I lost my identity
         To this world's ephemeral pleasures
                 Leaving behind no trails
Of the path I travelled through
To go back to where I belonged
Whence I was scolded for my mistakes
Was praised for my real brave-doings
And I was surely proud of my own self .

But alas! --- nothing seems possible now
                        As I lost myself ...

About this poem

It's about the realisation of losing one's own identity while struggling to strive in the real world that one faces as one grows up .
