Delicate

“Be strong” she said to the little one
As she pushed it across the nest
I wonder what gave her the impression
That the little bird would have the strength
To fly if not flutter

“Fly away” she said to the little one
Yet I wonder where she gets the courage
To do that which is ever so important

“Make your own nest” she said
In the gentlest way possible
Letting the little bird know

How much she believes in it
Even if it does not know how to
Believe in itself yet

I wonder if she ever says
I’m here if you can’t fly
I’m here for the nights when your wings hurt
I’m here when you can’t find food

And as the little bird flies away
I wonder if she wishes
She could hold him
For a little while longer
