Religious Talk

Doug Blair 1951 (London)

Sick and tired you tell me
Of my religious talk.
I couldn’t, wouldn’t
Tone it down
And now you plan to walk.
A safe secure upbringing
With nature scoring big.
And family warmth and singing
Yet I, religious prig.
Perhaps I used the language
Archaic times of Paul
Perhaps I failed to listen
thus making your skin crawl.
I know Redemption’s power and pull
Prayers brought Lord Jesus close.
But maybe, maybe friendship, fun
Would earn another dose.

But it is not my words alone
My ways and choices irk
And you dear Brother earned your way
With work and work and work.

About this poem

We must use wisely and sparingly, words of the Spiritual experience, relief and hope in Jesus Christ. We are vessels carrying tremendous Good News…if we act with meekness and sensitive ears for others. And pick the right time, place and approach. Simply tools in His tool box of blessing. All glory going to Him.
