Eerie Mellification: The Dark Struggle for Immortality

In days of old, a strange and eerie thing
Was done by men who sought eternal fame
They took the bees, and put them in a ring
And fed them on their honey till they came
To form a sweet and maddening hive of pain
Then, when the bees had lost their buzzing voice
The men took them and made them sweet again
By soaking them in honey, their sweet choice

This process, called mellification, was strange
For what it did was turn the bees to food
And yet, it seemed to have a deeper range
A sense of mystery and a darker mood

For in this act, we see the human mind
The struggle for eternal life we find

The bees, once living, now are made to die
And in their death, we see our own demise
For though we search for immortality
We cannot find it, no matter how we try

And so we turn to strange and dark ways
To find the key to life that we desire
We take the bees and make them sweet, we say
And in their sweetness, we see hope and fire

But is it not a twisted kind of hope
To take the lives of creatures for our gain
To use them as a means to help us cope
With the fear of death that we cannot restrain

For in this act of mellification, we see
The darkest parts of human history

We see the desperation, the sheer will
To find a way to live forevermore
We see the sacrifice, the dark thrill
Of taking life, and using it for more

And in this, we see the essence of our souls
The struggle for existence, and the tolls

We pay to live, to find our place in time
And yet, it seems, we cannot find our way
For though we search, and though we climb
We cannot escape the night and day

And so we turn to mellification
As a means to find the life we crave
And yet, in doing so, we find damnation
In taking life, we send ourselves to the grave

For in this act, we see the darkest part
Of human nature, and the human heart.
