Welcome

Welcome?

Send me your tired and poor
Says the lady with the lamp
A symbolic marker
Of where to come camp

Come to the land of the free
We have much to offer
Can’t you see?
Stand in line
For multiple freebies

Don’t bother to work
We have your back
For us it’s common sense
That we lack

Enjoy the services
That we provide
For were too dumb to protest
I must confide

Use our laws against us
For we are to weak
To make a fuss

Does anyone wonder
Why we give so much?
Our generosity
Seems out of touch

To leave your home
And migrate here
And demand we serve you
You must revere

We will help you succeed and thrive
While our own struggle to survive
Push aside the homeless
There barely alive

Perhaps I complain too much
Maybe I’m the one
Out of touch

I have no desire
To deny anyone a chance
But our own come first!
Is what we need to romance

Anything left after that
Will gladly be given
To make you fat

So, with a regrettable sigh
Please pack your bags
And say goodbye
While we work to fix this lie
That we are all equal in the land of the free
Just as long as you pay me

Eric (and sometimes not)
