God’s Sense of Humor

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

Irony has its own funny little meaning.
It all depends on the amount you’ve been gleaning.
The things that you’ve seen and the things you have heard;
Especially the ones that you’ve gotten from the Word!

You’ll come to obedience through trial and terror.
The terror is good if it comes from your error.
If you’re not rebuked, then how can you learn?
The Lord shows His love by the way you have turned!

If you turn to men when you’re scared and alone,
He’ll leave you that way and you’ll be on your own.
But the presence of love you can feel in an instant.
If you’ll just turn to Him and you will not resist it!

The Lord laughs at nations when they try to refuse Him.
When they put on their armor and seek to abuse Him.
He takes up the cause of the poor and afflicted;
He kills the oppressor when they’re not on their sick bed!

While they travel around in their strength and their might,
He darkens the sun and He turns out their light.
So, to all of His children who are tired and afraid,
I say just stand your ground until night turns to day!
