Winter in New England

Are you ready for six months of winter as we brace for the snow and the cold / Another winter  I'll spend in   New England/This routine is getting so old.
I promised myself a million times now I'd book a one way flight to the Keys/ instead of buying that new swimsuit,
I invested in a new pair of skis.
Called the oilman today for delivery, making sure I'm prepared for the storm
Turned the thermostat down to save money
Costs a whole little bread to stay warm.
Then I looked out of my window the next morning
The snow glistening in the light of the sun
So I put on my boots and my mittens  and went out to have a little snow day fun.
I remember the winters when I was a child
All the fun sledding down the steep windy hill
It was fun staying out building snowmen
And standing by the fire to take off the chill.
Guess I'll stick around for one more year
Dig out the skates and go gliding on the ice
I'll look forward to springtime and summer again
Any temp over seventy would be nice.

About this poem

I wrote this poem 15 years ago and kind of forgot about it. We are expecting a big storm tonight and I thought of this poem and dug it out.

I grew up in New England and still live here after having lived in the south for a decade. I'm back where I am inspired by the mountains and lakes I have enjoyed for many decades. more…
