One Day

There was a time so long ago where rivers shine, and people glowed
There was a time of peace in the land and everything was plentiful throughout the expanse
But then one day all of that changed and people were ripped away
From Grandpas to Uncles from Mothers to Aunts this perfect world was getting ripped apart
They took us together and chained us and said we were slaves and you’ll never see this world again
They put us on ships and below the deck hundreds and thousands of people were getting sick
It took maybe days months or years till we were on a new land filled with wonders and fears
When we landed a quarter of people were dead the people who brought us here could’ve cared less
They told everyone to get in line, but some people refused, and they drew the line
If you didn’t obey them, they’ll whop you till you bleed, and some people weren’t as lucky as we
Some people got hanged and we watched there slaughter this new world was already getting harder
Many people were sold as slaves and worked in the cotton fields all day
Some people also worked in the house caring for their masters and children without a doubt
We couldn’t read write or teach so we sang songs while we worked in the heat
Songs of One day going home and one day that day will come
We all will be free, and everyone will live in harmony and we’ll return home to the land of plenty
There will be many challenges along the way, but we’ll be free is what we will say
And one day our great grandchildren will say our ancestors we are freed today

About this poem

I wrote this poem about slavery. I got interested when my family watched a movie about it. It really inspired me to create this poem
