Ended, Enduring, Eternal

Words land with leaden weight
with regret and sorrow but still not hate
Love bleeds out for the final time
from both your wounds and mine
So ended is our love affair
drowned in tears, caught in an indifferent snare

Yet unruly is the heart
knowing not how to live apart
Testifying of love sublime
in honour of what once was mine
So enduring is our love affair
bound in memory, but beyond repair

Truest love is that which
does not again seek to bewitch
Instead in humblest dedication giving
selfless service never ending
So eternal is our love affair,
fated never to melt into air.
