The Author

Morrigan Jones 2006 (Kilkenny)

The Author

Who controls the endless stream of words that pore out of a man’s mouth?
Who controls all the thoughts that pass through a man’s head?
Who controls every object that a man sees and touches?
Who controls the earth and all the planets around it?
I, for I am the Author, and I control the narrative of the universe.
The black plague, the atomic bomb, death itself,
They exist because I named them, and therefore created them.
You could not be here without me, as I gave you a name,
And without a name you would be nothing.
The Author controls everything.
He controls your perception of the universe and how you do things,
And the Author is I.
I am the Author

About this poem

Inspired by a poem I read in Ted Hughes’ Crow. Basically about how much power a writer has over their book, or about a god-like person who controls everything, depending on your opinion.
