Ode to the Willow Tree
O’ thou lovely willow tree
Why is it you weep?
Is it the tiny raindrops
Dancing on each leaf?
Like encircling curtains
Pendulous branches fall
Cascading slender leaves
Extend outward, droop, sprawl
O’ thou drooping willow
Why do you so weep?
Are your branches heavy
From secrets you keep?
Tales, myths, sorcery
Envelop your past
Many a love spell
Romances have cast
O’ you soothing sight
Why is it you weep?
Are your limbs longing
For someone to keep?
A haven of comfort
You offer each a place
Who ventures underneath
For your playful embrace
O’ thou graceful beauty
Why should you so weep?
Your loveliness invites
Pleasant thoughts to keep
Cuddling within the softness
Nature provides the bed
Room to escape weariness
Close my eyes, rest my head
O’ thou willow tree
I know why you weep!
Your tears are healing
So I peacefully sleep
Soft, tender caresses
Drift across my face
Offering solace
In your tender embrace
About this poem
Coming soon! Mother Nature will announce spring with astute ‘makeovers’. Flowers in bloom, birds in song, ducks in flight will appear along with windy days. After winter’s last thaw, the weeping willow flaunts a flowing essence. Drooping branches become the soul of grace!
