Sorrowful Hum

Oh heart, why must thou ache so?
Why must thy beats sound like a funeral drum?
I thought love was but a joyous flow,
But now it feels like a sorrowful hum.

Her face, once a sight that brought me glee,
Is now a haunting memory in my mind.
I thought our love would forever be,
But now its end, I cannot help but find.

I try to dull the pain with work and play,
But nothing seems to ease this heavy load.
I am but a shadow of my former self,
A shell of the man I once bestowed.

I thought that love was but a rose to hold,
But now it feels like a poisoned dart,
It wounds my heart and leaves me cold,
Tearing me apart.

But though my heart is in turmoil,
I know that with time, it will heal and unfurl
and I will find a way to make it whole again,
For now, I'll suffer the heartbreak and learn.
