Reckless
Matthew Anderson 1981 (Rhode Island)
Reckless
People see me as reckless.
Reckless to them is crazy.
To have ideas and beliefs outside of their own.
But still, I stand firm in my beliefs.
I do not compromise to be accepted.
I do not diminish my integrity to fit in.
I stand here alone, Reckless!
As I look around me.
I see no one.
They come in and they go out.
They feed on my soul.
They drink of my spirit.
Filling up on my energy.
Never to be seen again.
Me! Still alone and Reckless.
But that is to the naked eye.
What you can’t see.
Can fool you.
It is not what is to be seen.
Rather what is felt.
The warmth in my heart that reminds me…
…what I do and who I am, is right.
It’s the sensation that surrounds my body as if I am held that lets me know, I am NOT ALONE AT ALL.
He is here with me, Always!
He also is Reckless!
He surrounded himself with sinners.
Laughed at and ridiculed by many.
Never wavering from the ideas or the truths that flow off his tongue.
And many said about he, crazy.
Some may say, Reckless.
So I will continue to stand true.
In all that I know.
Because, though I seem to be alone.
It is he who is always is here.
And when you think of me.
I ask you now, do you see me as, Reckless?
