Portrait

I sit with my canvas, twirling brush in my fingers.
Thoughts of painting your portrait, but yet my hand lingers.
Green for your eyes? But it cannot say
all the thoughts and emotions that those eyes convey.
Pink skin soft, like the petal of a rose,
Sweet and fragrant when I hold you close.
What colors should I use for that radiant smile?
That it warms my soul and lifts worries for awhile.
Wheat gold that shimmers like the breeze in your hair.
That silk beneath my fingers makes my spirits soar the air.
I could paint your picture and have some call it art.
But it wouldn't be the image that embraces my heart.
For an artist's brush can never see,
all the things you are to me.
Love, devotion, hope and life;
you, my beloved wife.
