Happy Times
Scarlett Cooper 2010 (Knoxville, TN)
Running shoes strewn across the hall
Boys outside play catch with a bright purple ball
“Time for dinner!” their mothers call
So then it lies abandoned,
That bright purple ball
Little girls play princess and dress up
Sit and have tea parties, teapots and teacups
But now those cups lie shattered
And the ball has been popped
But they can be pieced back together
Like connect the dots
And as those memories
whisk through my mind
I smile and think
"Weren't those happy times?"
About this poem
I wrote this poem because I wanted to capture innocence (childhood) and how it gets left behind, but also how it is loved.
