CIRCLES UNENDING
CIRCLES UNENDING
When these wars are lost and won
and in the field is left men and crests,
a mother shall receive her one last son,
ay! but a gloomy carcass upon her breast.
A Bride shall seek her husband
though it might be his remains alone
perhaps some letter written by his hand,
to bestow a name upon their child unborn.
A Father stares at his doors
awaiting his boys from the moor,
he waits in vain; his loneliness shall reveal thus.
Though he cries not, he shall be a man no more.
They that return, hearts beating,
shall run e'en to the ends of the earth,
to quell from their heads the endless battling;
Shall they find peace? Yes, at the ends of the earth.
Songs shall be made 'bout these men—
they that lost and also won these wars.
A boy shall hear the songs about these men
and his heart shall swell and be thirsty for war.
About this poem
This poem touches the subject of war. Whether it ends in a victory or a loss, some persons would have lost loved ones to ensure such result and CIRCLES UNENDING attempts to expose the pain of they who lose loved ones to battles. The last stanza is indeed where the title is coined from. Young boys care more about the honours of warriors without even knowing caring to know what weighs more between the results and the sacrifice
