SADNESS

Joseph Berolo 1934 (Bogotá)

Sad do not feel
when facing wrinkles,
fallen leaves
and petals strewn
upon the garden
of our autumn days...
For if all that surfaces,
changed and pale and aged,
is the burned skin
of long ago departed
summer days,
but still, the soul survives
in the blessed state of mind,
by love surrounded
and much peace and joy
for deeds well done,
What of Age, but brightness,
and a sweet recline
upon a peaceful dawn.
