Song of Exile
Joseph Berolo 1934 (Bogotá)
Song Of Exile
Oh, my distant island,
the swelling sea,
the grave of dreams,
the path of no return!
Gone are the days of feast
at home before the war;
a boat at dawn departed,
unknown the shore beyond.
So many of us on board
exiled from peace and love,
in tortuous valleys cried;
Along The Keys, the waves
in naked dance the shore explores,
a child above the crest,
a man of age, a tortured soul,
it all converges to rest
the strenuous journey of death
Oh, my distant island,
the swelling sea,
the grave of dreams,
the path of no return!
Gone the days of feast
at home before the war;
a boat at dawn departed,
unknown the shore beyond.
So many of us on board
exiled from peace and love,
in tortuous valleys cried;
Along The Keys, the waves
in naked dance the shore explore,
a child above the crest,
a man of age, a tortured soul,
it all converges to rest
the strenuous journey of death
upon the blessed land of Hope.
About this poem
Song Of Exile Oh, my distant island, the swelling sea, the grave of dreams, the path of no return! Gone the days of feast at home before the war; a boat at dawn departed, unknown the shore beyond. So many of us on board exiled from peace and love, in tortuous valleys cried; Along The Keys, the waves in naked dance the shore explore, a child above the crest, a man of age, a tortured soul, it all converges to rest the strenuous journey of death upon the blessed land of Hope.
